Microarrays are generally used for transcriptional profiling of whole (or very large portions of) genomes. The main component of the VersArray Chip Writer Pro is a high-precision robot which is used to spot extremely small volumes (1 - 2 nl) of DNA onto specially coated glass surfaces. Approximately 30,000 spots of DNA can be deposited on a standard 7.5 cm x 2.5 cm glass slide and up to 75 slides can be printed at once.
